Some iPhone 3G users reporting yellow-tinted screens

I’m happy to say that my new iPhone 3G is working great, however, it seems that other people’s phones are feeling a bit…yellow. That is to say that their display has a slightly yellow tint to it. Check out the comparison pictures below.

While I can certainly see a difference in the colors of the two phones, I think it is possibly explained by simply a different color temperature, rather than a faulty screen. With that in mind, I wish I had an older 2.5 model around for a side-by-side comparison since I don’t see an issue with my screen.

Are any of you guys noticing this yellow hue? I’d be interested to hear just how many of you are noticing this, and whether or not it quite as visible without being next to an original iPhone.

iPhone 3G costs $173 to build

iSuppli released some information regarding how much the new iPhone 3G really cost Apple. Based on their calculation, Apple seems to be making roughly fifty fuve percent profit margin. While iSuppli did not count into research and development cost, the number is quite interesting.

Stripping off the new iPhone 3G for component lists and price them individually, iSuppli determined that a 8GB iPhone 3G costs $173.33 to build. AT&T is rumored to be paying Apple $300 subsidy on each iPhone 3G sales, that put the iPhone 3G total prices to $499 for the 8GB version and translate to the fifty five percent margin stated above.

“iSuppli believes Apple aimed for a more cost-effective design for the 3G iPhone compared to the 2G, in order to lower the retail price – which will allow the company to seed adoption and to capture maximum market share now – while the company still has buzz and a perceived differentiation relative to its competitors.”

If this number hold any truth, Apple’s one million iPhone 3G sold during the weekend should put its quarterly earning higher than before.

White iPhone 3G Sucks?

According to Gizmodo.com.au, in Australia, nobody seems to like the white iPhones. The people in the queue in Sydney were being told that they may have to go with the white 16GB model as the black running out of stock. That will be sucks if you are in the queue for couple hours with only the choice of white. The white looks okay to me but it would better if the whole thing goes white include the front screen. However, the black will still look more luxurious than the white, if you put them in compare.

Rogers Announces Price Packages for Apple iPhone 3G

Rogers Wireless announced a variety of voice and data pricing plans for the Apple iPhone 3G set to hit stores on Friday, July 11. With monthly plans starting at $60 for voice and data combined, all price plans require a three-year contract. With the cheapest $60 plan you will get 150 voice minutes plus unlimited weekend and evening talk time, as well as a 400MB data transfer limit. These isn’t unlimited data transfer plan though, the most expensive plan will cost you $115 a month and it only comes with a 2GB data transfer package.

Pricing includes unlimited Wi-Fi access at all Rogers and Fido Hotspots. Rogers Wireless will also offer two voice value packs for popular wireless features: a $15 monthly value pack including Caller ID, Who Called, Caller Ring Trax, 2,500 Sent Text Messages and 2,500 Call Forwarding Minutes; and a $20 monthly value pack including Caller ID, Who Called, Caller Ring Trax, 10,000 Sent Text Messages and 6:00 p.m. Early Evening Calling and 2,500 Call Forwarding Minutes.

Alright, you can’t get your pre-order at Apple online store, but you can get it at eBay. There sellers have already started to offers the iPhone 3G in eBay and some of it has hit up to $700. Check out the auction page.

A few things to keep in mind before bidding on an iPhone 3G from eBay:
1. You can no longer buy an unactivated iPhone.
2. The biggest iPhone will only run you $299 (half of $600 going rate).
